The Panvel Municipal Corporation has initiated a three-day training programme for 45 field trainers to build capacity ahead of Census 2027. Held from April 6 to 8 at the Adya Krantiveer Vasudev Balwant Phadke auditorium, the sessions targeted civic school teachers and junior engineers who will prepare enumerators and supervisors. Officials emphasized that field trainers form the critical link for accurate census execution across India.

Core Components of Census Preparation

Participants received comprehensive instruction on the census process, with primary attention on the initial House Listing and Housing Census phase. Trainers learned to compile house lists, document housing conditions, and gather vital data points essential for national planning. An official stated, “Field trainers play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and smooth execution of the census process.” Additional modules covered map reading, delineation of enumeration blocks, and creation of layout sketches to support precise field surveys.

Shift to Digital Enumeration Tools

Census 2027 marks India's full transition to digital methods, prompting focused training on the dedicated mobile application. Attendees practiced downloading the app, secure login procedures, and real-time data entry while prioritizing verification to minimize errors. Exposure to platforms like the Census Management and Monitoring System and the HLBC web portal equipped them for efficient data handling and reporting during operations.

Building Field Effectiveness and Oversight

Communication skills formed a key pillar, preparing trainers to engage citizens effectively, address queries, and resolve fieldwork challenges. Sessions drew guidance from Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Paradkar, Census Directorate district coordinator Aman Kumar, and master trainer Ruchita Telang. Transport manager Kailas Gavade made an appearance on Tuesday to motivate participants. This preparation ensures a robust workforce ready to deploy modern tools and disciplined practices for the decennial census, which shapes government resource allocation, urban development, and policy decisions nationwide.
